December in Ghana

Christmas holidays are the most exciting times to be in Ghana. There are lots of exciting activities throughout the entire month and well into the new year, with music at the center of most Ghanaian festivities. For most musicians, a hit song in any other month is never a walk in the park, but a smash hit in December is even more rare. We chose a few hit songs from previous Christmas seasons and put forward some potential anthems for this season.

R2Bees ft Wande Coal – Kiss your hand

If you are old enough, you’ll know that R2bees have provided the soundtracks for a lot of transformative experiences. ‘Adey mad’, ‘Yawa Girl’ and ‘It’s Alright’ are just a few of the memorable songs from the Ghanaian music duo. R2bees released ‘Kiss Your Hand’ in 2009, which featured Nigerian music veteran, Wande Coal.

Wutah – Bronya

‘Bronya’ in what Ghanaians say when referring to Christmas. Ghanaian musical pair, Wutah, reconnected after years apart to create the theme song for December 2017. The single was an instant hit after its release in June and catapulted the pair to the top of Ghanaian music charts in the months that followed.

Kuami Eugene – Angela

‘Angela’ was the song that placed Ghanaian singer Kuami Eugene on the pedestal he was always ready to embrace. Kuami Eugene dropped this banger in 2017 and has not dipped off the radar since.

Nigerian Afrobeats  musician, Burna Boy released ‘Ye’ in 2018. The single was one of the most played songs on his third album ‘Outside’ and was undoubtedly one of the anthems for December 2018.

runtown – Mad over you

Nigerian artist, runtown released this smash hit in 2016. The ode to Ghanaian women ‘Mad Over You’, shot straight to the top on most local charts. Till date, this anthem will almost always give you that urge to get up and dance and reflect on fond memories connected to this game changing track.

Sarkodie – Adonai ft castro

Sarkodie featured Castro on ‘Adonai’. Released in 2014, and one of the last songs featuring the legendary, sorely missed Castro, was one of the most unforgettable tunes of the year, and subsequently received massive airplay.

Nigerian Hitmaker, Olakira, released his smash single ‘Maserati’ in 2020. The track has streaming numbers in the millions and is one of the bangers to look out for during the festive season.

Yaw Tog – Sore

Ghanaian Hip-hop artist, Yaw Tog, has had a phenomenal year. His viral  hit song, ‘Sore’ has made the promising young  talent a forerunner on the Ghana drill music scene.

Kidi – Say Cheese

Ghanaian artist, Kidi, dropped  ‘Say Cheese’,  a single off his 5-track EP titled, ‘Blue’. The song debuted at number 15 on the Billboard Chart and proves that Kidi’s sound remains unmatched.
