Top 10 Ghanaian Drill songs you’ve GOT to know

The holiday season in Accra has been phenomenal. With holiday partiers from Nigeria to London and other parts of the world, escaping to the West African city for some outdoor social distancing fun.

While afrobeats is still thriving, a different scene is taking over all the parties and events in Accra. Ghanaian drill music has earned a place in the December bangers list. Locals have accepted and fallen in love with a handful of  Ghanaian infused drill music.

However, with the rest of the world still in the process of discovering the emerging sub genre, here is our list of 10 Ghanaian drill sounds.

      1. Yaw Tog – Sore ft O’Kenneth, Jay Bahd, City Boy, Reggie
        From the Life Living Records crew, Yaw Tog may be the younger but certainly not the least talented. Known by the nickname ‘Young Bull’, as he has dropped arguably, the biggest drill tune in Ghana this year. ‘Sore’ is the motivational pump-up anthem with a catchy chorus that you need to have in your playlist.
      2. Jay Bahd – Condemn ft City Boy, O’Kenneth, Reggie, Kwaku DMC
        With a voice reminiscent of New York Drill King Pop Smoke, Jay Bahd’s ‘Condemn’ is topping charts and airwaves nationwide. The lyrics accompanied by his distinctive bass-heavy voice, will have yo fired up and ready to go!
      3. Kawabanga – Akatafo) ft O’Kenneth, JayBahd, Reggie 
        The song that started it all. Kawabanga’s ‘Akatafo)’ led the charge in the takeover of Asakaa (Ghanaian drill music). This single is a riveting charged up tune for you and the crew to bounce to.
      4. Kofi Jamar – Ekorso ft Yaw TOG & YPee
        The Kumasi-based singer took a dive into the drill scene with this tune, and what a leap of fate it was! ‘Ekorso’ is one of the Top 3 songs in Ghana right now and it’s not number 3.
      5. Sean Lifer – Ma Drip ft O’Kenneth, Reggie, Jay Bahd, Kwaku DMC, Kawabanga, City Boy
        One of the founding members of Life Living Records, Sean Lifer’s ‘Ma Drip’, is a testament to high fashion, streetwear and style. A predominant cultural aspect of Asakaa. What with an endorsement from Virgil Abloh, Off White and Louis Vuitton, what would you expect?
      6.  Joey B – Cold ft Sarkodie
        Popular rapper Joey B taps the king of rap, Sarkodie on this short but intense single ‘Cold’. The song has a catchy rhythm and melody that will have you repeating, cos it’s just not enough to hear it once.
      7. Okese1 – Yie Yie
        From the AMG camp, Okese1’s ‘Yie Yie’ is a playful, yet braggadocious single that is racking up plays on airwaves. The newcomer shows proficiency in wordplay and storytelling, as he brags of his wealth and cash on this fun single.
      8. Joey B ft Medikal and Kofi Mole  – Akobam
        Joey B has often proved himself the king of nostalgia. On ‘Akobam’, he draws listeners minds to an old school advert for a menthol rub for body aches. Combined with its drill bounce and catchy rhythm, Akobam is a must add to any drill playlist.
      9. Dead Peepol & Rich Kent – Otan Hunu
        Newcomers Dead Peepol and Rich Kent have a message for their haters on this drill number. Sing-along-able and relatable lyrics make ‘Otan Hunu’ a favourite.
      10. City Boy – Idi Koko ft Reggie and Jay Bahd
        Another play on nostalgia, is this single by Life Living Records member City Boy. Referencing old school Ghanaian comedian and actor, Idi Koko, he raps about his opps, his cash and ambitions.
