You should be paying attention to Victony
Nigeria’s music scene is bustling with an array of young and emerging artists that seem ready to dominate the global music scene. In every new era, there are stand out talents and those that need a little more attention. With global attention on Nigeria’s diverse scene with offerings in afrobeats, Afropop, r&b and hip hop, there are stand out talents and hidden gems that need a little more digging up.
Victony is one such diamond in the rough.
Shortly after signing with Mainland block Party, the young stunner came on the scene with his EP Saturn. The diverse EP showcased Victony’s vocal range; an oddly satisfying nasal soprano that carried emotions in his love songs. From the heartbreak anthem ‘Space and Time’, to the pop track, ‘87 Club’ and the star track Maria featuring Falz Victony’s Saturn was the perfect introduction to the Nigerian music scene.
Just when the city was starting to pay attention, tragedy struck.
Just a few months after his EP was released, Victony was involved in a fatal accident. The accident left him bedridden for months after he underwent surgery. Victony, although soft in his music, has a fighting spirit, and shortly after he came out of hospital he announced his arrival with a rivetting 2 track EP. ‘Dark Times’ is a product of self-reflection and revaluation. The EP showed promise of a new, improved Victony, physically (sporting a new haircut and rocking a wheelchair better than Professor Xavier) and in his career. He seemed like a man on a mission – and with a second chance at life her was no one he would fumble it.

The last few months have proved this to be true.
Victony has featured on songs of both emerging artists and established artists and has won the spotlight on all occasions. On rising talent Savage’s Rosemary, Victony’s vocals lead the track and carry the melodies on this love song. On Mayorkun’s Holy Father, his nasal vocals take a strong position on the amapiano influenced track and win over listeners from first listen.
With a unique voice and a knack for storytelling and songwriting, Victony is one to bet on.
As the Nigerian music scene continues to grow and evolve, creating space for various artists to thrive and expand, Victony is one of the few who is unafraid of taking up space in uncharted territories.
