A Very Lucky Playlist

As important it is that African’s tell our story, it’s important we tell it our way. The cast and crew of Lucky, chose to change the narrative of a poor, war-ridden struggling Africa in films, to a story that was everyday life and easily relatable, especially among the youth.

Lucky, a movie written by Joe Wackle and directed by Fofo Gavua, follows the story of Lucky Barima Mensah, a young good looking university student that has landed the date of the century with the most popular girl on social media, @NuttiFafa. With not a cedi to his name, Lucky and his friend Wadaada have to try and sell a Macbook to gangsters and fraudsters while avoiding a crazy taxi driver they ditched without paying. When Lucky thinks nothing else can go wrong, things go completely wrong.

The film stars Fred Amugi, Akofa Edjeani Asiedu and Jane Efya Awindor, among many others. Not only is the film featuring Ghanaian cast, but its score is from fantastic Ghanaian and Nigerian musicians. From OGs such as Reggie Rocktone, to new kids on the block like Kwesi Mole and even some unreleased gems from Ria Boss, the soundtrack for Lucky, is just as amazing as the film.

LUCKY is a snapshot into the mind of a millennial whose realities and priorities are intersectional and like many in his generation, shaped by Social Media.
