MUSIC YOU SHOULD HEAR THIS WEEK

New Music of the week spans rap, hip hop and afropop from West Africa and African diaspora

  • SHOWDEM CAMP ft ODUNSI || POPPING AGAIN

From their 2017 EP Palmwine Music, Showdem Camp presents the video for Popping Again featuring BOJ and Odunsi. Director King Davies and Creative Director/ Set Designer Isabella Agbaje, play around with purple and reds and palms in a chilled party set. Notice the Palm wine in Wine glasses? EPIC.

  • juls ft moelogo, siza and dj tunez || OSHEY

A favourite off Juls Ojekoo EP, Oshey gets the video treatment it deserves. Featuring Moelogo, Siza and DJ Tunez, Juls is a host of a basement showcase. Directed by Tshisz Nelson and produced by Caro Ohemaa, the deep toned video got an African print inspired styling from Lezleyanne Twang. Watch below:

  • GUILTYBEATZ FT MR EAZI, PAPPY KOJO AND PATAPAA || AKWAABAA

A party anthem like no other! Producer GuiltyBeatz kicks up the year with this riveting single featuring Pappy Kojo, Mr Eazi and Patapaa. We suspect a signing to Meister Music with Akwaaba being hosted on Mr Eazi’s YouTube. There’s also the telltale signs of the link between Guiltybeatz and the Happy Boy from the fanlike to Akwaaba being Platoon’s (The same company that handles Mr Eazi’s music). Whatever the case may be, this is a solid banger and we’re excited for more from GuiltyBeatz.

  • YXNGBANE || VROOM

The UK scene is buzzing with tunes and Yxng Bane’s Vroom is killing it. The smooth flow is an impeccable reintroduction to the rapper.

  • NOT3S FT MALEEK BERRY || SIT BACK DOWN

Not3s is on a roll! Sit Back Down with Maleek Berry is an ear worm with a massive bounce! Watch the video below.

  • Nix feat. Omzo Dollar ||  La Boca

We take a dip intoSenegal with rapper Nix.  He goes hard on a lippy video for La Boca featuring Omzo Dollar.

  • OGRANyA || SUFFOCATE

Ogranya captures you from the first lines of this song! The lyrics of Sufffocate are so capturing and intense. The slight contrast created with the funk bounce produced by Kesmap Guyit makes this song enjoyable.

  • YUNG PABI FT M3NSA || BUSHMAN

Yung Pabi is one to look out for! His hard hitting truths about his life delivered in impeccable rhyme and flow on Bush Man is a great introduction to the Ghanaian rap scene. Featuring M3nsa, Yung Pabi’s Bushman tells the story of his (non-existent) relationship with his father in Twi, an Asante language.

  • AYAT || MEMUNA

Ayat sings on a love gone sour on this experimental Afro tune produced by TwistedWavex. Rapped in Hausa, Memuna is the good girl gone bad.

  • trill xoe ft TONERO AND RILWAN || love like this

Trill Xoe employs Tonero and Rilwan on this slow wind themed Love Like This. It sounds like something straight out of the OVO camp. If you love PND you’ll definitely love this banger.

  • HERMAN $UEDE || QUESTIONS

A Young King with a ton of questions putting Jay Z to shame. High Schooler Herman Suede vibes on this high life plugged R&B number created by D3MZ. If you like Ordateis and the production on Amaarae’s Hawaii, you’ll like Questions.
