Love Yourz: History In The Making Concert

One of the most historic events to happen in Ghanaian music or even West African music has occurred and no one seems to care.

Sarkodie, Ghanaian twi rapper and lyricist, headlined and organized a concert (HISTORY IN THE MAKING CONCERT) in the iconic Apollo Theatre in Harlem, New York City in ‘Murica.

Quick wiki facts in case you’re not so concerned about Apollo Theatre. Apollo Theatre is a landmark in Harlem, New York City. It’s been in existence since 1913 and It has housed many great acts especially in the blues, jazz and hip hop genres. Billy Holiday, Lauryn Hill, James Brown, Marvin Gaye, Luther Vandross, jasmine Sullivan, Mariah Carey, Ne-Yo, the Isley Brothers and Stevie Wonder among others all started their career at the Apollo Theatre. Greatness started here!

And Sarkodie, that boy from Tema, had a concert there with other west African acts like Shatta Wale, EL, Bisa Kdei and Banky W, and it sold out! Tickets were done! Seats were filled to capacity. And I wake up this fine Sunday morning and not a peep from any of you Ghanaians.

This is major! It’s not some baby thing to do yo! Acknowledge a man! Acknowledge a man’s greatness. Much more acknowledge your fellow country man’s greatness!

Ghanaians have this attitude of talking about the trash and ignoring the good things.

We all heard about the ruckus between Sarkodie and Ace Hood’s 24 million or whatever deal. All the bloggers and news websites were reporting on that. Twitter was a buzz with that. Then came the issue of the lyrics on the New Guy song with Ace Hood ( Ace Hood is involved in a lot of Sarkodie type ruckus’). And some other issue with Sarkodie being involved with the Illuminati or with Juju or something. There is always something negative to say, but never anything positive.

We don’t love our own as Ghanaians. At least not until some white person starts lauding them then we all remember the individual is a Ghanaian. We’d rather support an international act than ours because…. Abrokyire.

Sarkodie did awesome with this. And this may never reach him but I pray greatness for him. I pray awesomeness. Just as his show was! Back to back tracks like Illuminati, Megye wo girl with Shatta Wale and Pon de Ting with Banky W. EL and his tall sexy self spoil there ( can’t wait for Bar II) and Bisa Kdei and his smooth voice won over the ladies.

First Apollo Theatre, then the world! Thank you Sarkodie, you’ve definitely made history!
