House Rules ft Gloria Dennis

When you’re a rookie photographer, graphic designer and academic researcher, joining the growing creative collective when you move back to your motherland only makes sense. That was Gloria Dennis’ first move when she finally found her feet in Accra. The Ghanaian/Australian is a member of creative collective, superjazzclub. Her music is seamlessly perfect, because she lives with the rare condition, synthesesia– the ability too see music in colour.

Where are you right now? Describe your surrounds. What do you see? What do you hear? What can you smell?

Top floor motel suite, twisting my cigars. Floor model TV with the VCR.Got rubies in my damn chain.

Nah just kidding! I’ve always wanted to use that lol.
I’m in the studio. It’s mostly dark, except for a little green neon light that lights up the walls faintly and the computer screens. BiQo and Seyyoh are on my far right recording guitars over a song they just wrote. Oliver and Orleans are cooped up in a corner discussing what appears to be a schedule, eyes glued on their screens. Øbed’s seated in the couch mixing vocals from his computer right behind me, Ansah Live is practicing keyboard with headphones, and Joey Turks is watching a tutorial of some sort and making a beat with headphones on. Been down with a cold for the past week so I can barely smell anything at this point.

If you could name this mix, what would you call it?

Where do babies come from ???

What do you imagine people doing as they listen to this mix?

Late night, the last of the rain drops have just hit the ground. There’s a certain stillness, chill and silence in the air. All curled up in bed under heavy blankets in a dark room with just a little light source, preferably blue lights.

You’re a food at a wedding party. What food are you and why?

Jollof, fried rice, all the rice stuff. Just because it makes kids happy. I love kids.

Describe yourselves with a line from a song.

“Being broke is childish and I’m quite grown.” – I love the dough

If you could only choose one song to play every time you walked into a room for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Making Love out of Nothing At All – Air Supply

You’re a colour in a pack of crayons. What colour are you and why?

White. We ran from red and blue lights to get the green, but whoever got the white is winning like Charlie Sheen. Shouts Ludacris and ATL.

You’re in a zombie apocalypse and you can only have 3 things. What are they and why?

My computer because, my life.
A big ass can of water and my copy of Applied Statistics: From Bivariate through Multivariate Techniques, because I love that book and also because I bought it at a time when I was really broke lol.

You wake in the last movie you watched as one of the characters. What movie is it, and  which character are you?

The movie is Mid90s and I’m Fourth Grade – let’s quietly document everything.

You’re Thanos with the Infinity Gauntlet… what are you snapping away?

Death. No wait, student loans.

How would you conquer the world?

Mix my pineapple juice with mint, and give me a computer with internet. I guess i’m already doing it.
