It is not often easy for any upcoming act to follow in the footsteps of a successful sibling in the music nay entertainment industry. Ask D’Prince how it was for him to come through with a sibling as big as Don Jazzy or even Kayswitch whose sibling is none other than former GOOD Music signee D’Banj. This is exactly what Teni Entertainer may have to face being the sibling to ex music show attendee and ‘Maradona’ crooner Niniola.
While Niniola’s music has set off, Teni’s is just about to start. Now signed to Shizzi’s (Davido, Skuki, Team Talkless) Magic Fingers Records, Teni’s influences have come from much older artistes such as K1 De Ultimate, King Sunny Ade, Ebenezer Obey, Osita Osadebe and Dolly Parton. The University of Georgia graduate has also played drums for three past Lagos governors from the age of three.

Teni’s Instagram videos did create quite a buzz for her music and talent culminating in the single ‘Amen’ and the most recent ‘Fargin’ (a connotation of the word ‘Virgin’) which addresses the issue of rape and sexual exploitation where Teni uses her great story telling ability to craft the lyrics to the Mystro produced highlife beat. The single caught on so quickly it made over 40K plays on Soundcloud within 10 days of releasing. Fargin also made it to our 18th volume of Dix is Hot.
The great thing about her songs have been the messages behind them as well as her smooth delivery in mostly Yoruba and a dash of pidgin and English. The influences from Osadebe, K1 and KSA are also evident in her music and one does not necessarily need to be told.
With Shizzi’s industry experience and guidance, Teni’s music has already shown signs of transcending from that Instagram girl and drummer for governors to a bonafide star following in Nini’s ‘Maradona’ footsteps. Her recent, Fargin racked over 30k plays on Soundcloud in its first week of release. However, only time will tell, if the embrace from Instagram followers can also translate to acceptance from a larger audience.
